With $250 to spend on hard drives - whats the best setup?

Hello everyone,

So I've been reading about RAID while finalizing a new parts list for a $1300 build, AKA I'm questioning what i know about storage.

So whats the best for $250.

I was thinking i could get a smaller 10,000 RPM drive and put my OS and intensive games and whatnot on there, then get a 500 gig 7200 RPM drive for storage. Is this idiotic? Should i get 2 7200 drives in RAID 1?

Thanks for the help.

PS - the rest of the build is as follows

Q9450
ASUS P5K delux
850 gig ZALMAN
EVGA 8800GTS
4 gigs Corsair Dominator.
Old case from dead comp - Antec B2. The same as the gunmetal one on Newegg, only the older version. I love it for its design, and 4 adjustable 120's.

i don't think $250 will buy you a raptor and two 500 gb drives. anywho, two 500 gb drives would prove valuable for RAID 1. if you're not worried about reinstalling windows and what not, then using a raptor as an os drive would work fine.

or you could just use the 500 gb drives and just raid 1 them to save the money--that is if you're not totally concerned with performance.

Ah right sorry. I got some of my typing backwards.

One 76 gig raptor,
One 500 gig 7600 rpm

Or
Two Seagate 7600.10 Barracuda around 500 gig each in RAID 0

Performance is my goal. I meant raid 0 not 1 i think.
