I think Hitachi is best.

They all have their moments.

I can remember when Fujitsu, Toshiba, Western Digital and Seagate have all had their great times and their troubles.

They are all good brands that have stood the test of time despite some issues along the way.

Market share of hard drive manufacturers:
Seagate - 40%
Western Digital - 40%
Toshiba - 15-20%

Mergers in last 7 years:
Maxtor with Seagate in 2006
Fujitsu with Toshiba in 2009
Samsung with Seagate in 2011
Hitachi with Western Digital in 2012

Each of the remaining companies has kept their profits high by eliminating their competition and reducing their warranties. They are squeezing out as much profit now because the days of physical hard drive usage is numbered. As the prices of SSDs come down they are slowly replacing hard drives. This is especially true in portable devices where speed, physical size, durability and power usage are more important than price and capacity.

Top SSD manufacturers:
Consumer SSDs: Intel, Samsung, OCZ, Micron (Crucial), and Kingston
OEM SSDs: Samsung, Toshiba, Intel, Micron, and Sandisk

All the storage devices are good whether it was external or internal & life of these storage depends on our way to use it. If you format your hard disk or pen-drive frequently then surely it was being corrupt or any other UN-handled error will occur.

In my point of view Maxtor & Segate hardisk are best in its class, you may go for it.

The question was best storage company not best storage device.

Every storage company has had their share of unreliable storage devices in their past, so all storage devices are not good. It may be corrupt platters, defective motors, poor quality electronics or a bug in the firmware, but that they have all had some product that was not up to its inteneded specificiations and ln most cases led to bad press for the storage company about that device.

Segate for HDD and Kingston for Pen Drive are the best companies.
