PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable

Hi

I got a new system with the following config :
Code:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
2.4GHz 8MB cache 1066MHz
Intel Desktop MotherBoard DG33
8GB DDR2 RAM 800MHz Transcend (4 x 2GB)
1GB 8600 GT nVidia Graphics Card
500 SATA HDD Western Digital
Microsoft Wireless Keyboard & Mouse 700
20x Samsung DVD Writer
22" LG LCD monitor

I get the following msg when switching on:
Code:
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent

I thought this was showing because of the blank hard-disk.

I tried to install Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit DVD edition.
The live part worked - when I went for full installation, after 68%, it showed a message that it couldnt copy the files - bad C/DVD or hard-disk. I got another DVD (burnt with lower speed) and same result.

Is it possible that my hard-disk is bad ?

Thanks

yeah, its possible that the HDD is bad, but i had this with an old laptop i was given and fixed it by putting in a new processor because the old one had a messed up L2 cache. i'm not quite sure how the two go together, I only know that's what solved the problem for me.

Tried same thing with another hard-disk (160GB) - same result - disk copy error at 63% - so its probably the ISO that I downloaded that got corrupt.

yeah, try the iso, but also keep in mind what i said and think about getting a cheap socket 775 CPU like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16819116039
and see what happens. you can always return it afterwards.

it wouldnt be the socket, it would be the CPU like i said. you can test that by either using that CPU in another computer or using another CPU with your computer, just to eliminate that from being the cause like mine was.
