New PSU fan is very loud

I have an HP Pavilion A6528P that is about 3 years old. It wouldn't turn on last weekend and I had to take it to a repair place. They said the power supply unit went bad and replaced it. I brought it back home a few days ago and am disappointed that it's now very loud. The fan seems to be running at warp speed all the time. I never heard it running at all before. I called the place back and told them and the guy kind of acted like they are supposed to do that. He said they have special quiet models but they cost more. I paid $49.99 for this one, plus diagnostics & labor. It was called a "power supply 450" on the invoice. That's all I know about it.

I just want my computer to run quietly like before. Is that too much to ask? The noise is distracting when I'm working and I can't seem to get used to it. I know if I call them back they will act like I'm crazy or offer to put in a quieter model for more money. Any advice?

Being most places charge you (at least around here) $60 just to take a peek at it.
I would say you got a very low buget $19 generic 350 watt PSU.
Personally i would take it back and pay for something much better.

Agreed.

Or you could replace it yourself now that you know the problem. Changing out the PSU is pretty straightforward.

of course you can change the PSU alone, not at all difficult. but something you can change the fan inside the PSU. simply buy less noisy fan or CoolerMaster Chiftec and replace.
