Installing A Second SATA Drive
I just installed a second Seagate 1Tb SATA 3G HD, running under Windows XP Pro, 32-bit.
At first, the drive seemed full functional, in spite of the fact that Windows kept asking for drivers.
Then it got to the point that I had a hard time getting
past AMI BIOS. It would stop at "Auto-detecting SATA 1", which is my main drive (with the OS). Did a cold boot.
Seemed to solve the problem. Temporarily.
Then it progressed to not booting up, and this error
message displaying : "NTDLR is missing. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to restart.
At bootup, I tried pressing the DELETE or F8 keys to get
into BIOS. It woldn't work.
So I disconnected the Seagate drive, and booting up into
Windows wasn't a problem.
Maybe the drive is "toast" ?
But, I does seem like BIOS was trying to boot up using the
second drive, instead of the main drive (with the OS)
[I installed the Seagate as a data drive]
Question : Maybe the 1Tb Seagate was too large for the
BIOS ?

Enable BSOD: Control Panel/Systems, Advanced Tab, hit the Settings button under Startup and Recovery, and under the System Failure area, uncheck the Automatically Restart checkbox.

Adding A Second SATA Drive

That's what I was tninking. But, with the Seagate
connected I can't get into BIOS to switch the Priorities.
The way I undersdtand it is ........the drive has to be
"connected", so the System recognizes it. Once
recognized, THEN I can change the boot priority.
Correct ?
With the current "status" of the drive, I'm going to
either try another drive, or have this one checked.
Either way, if I did something wrong, I'd like to know
about it. So I can "mark down" my mistake, and continue
the learning process.
Thenks for your input.

You might want to look at the specs for your motherboard, though and see if there is an upper limit to drive size on the SATA controller.
I am not aware of any BIOS' with that problem, but I am not an expert in that arena.

Checking the Upper Limit on drive size...........now THAT
sounds like a definite direction (to go ) !!!
On the SATA Controller.......hmmmmmmmmmm
Definitely sounds worth checking into !!
Hot-swappable...........heard that before. But, just for
confirmation...........meaning I can plug and unplug them
the same way USB does..........correct ?
Is there a faster way to "tap into" that bank of knowlege in your brain ?

No. Neither close friends nor relatives get faster access to this brain. At least I don't charge you for computer advice.

I think you must use a jumper in your Master SATA HDD and check your cables properly if they are properly crossed together and inserted in Motherboard Master socket or not after that make a move towards BIOS by pressing DEL and check weather the Secondary HDD has been selected or not.

Wow.
You are about as useful as a knife in the throat, aren't you? You obviously know nothing about SATA drives, so why are in here, unless it's to boost your post-count enough to post links?
Actually, why not just do everyone a favor and tell me that you are a (albeit poor-quality) spammer so I can ban you right now and save everyone (including myself) the misery of having to read any more or your non-helpful droolings?

Sorry about that.........
No......I'm not a spammer. Just someone who's
trying to learn more about computers.
Right now, I'm checking into support programs that
offer "In Home" support. And Remote Access support. That way, the support
tech can see what's going on, with the computer
in its own environment.
Part of the problem in the recent past was obtaining
information, in reference to the problem.
Again........sorry being a pain-in-the-whatcha-macallit.
