How to recover data?
Few days back my PC get infected due to virus & my hard disk get corrupted & now it refuses to start. Weird thing is I have only one partition in my HDD & there are millions of important stuff are stored & certainly I did not want to loose those data. Please suggest me tips & tactics by which I can recover my data?

There are 2 best software available to download on internet to recover your data. 1st is "Recover My Files" while 2nd is Power Data Recovery. You can use either any of them.

If your priority is to recover your files (that are not backed up elswhere) then I would remove that disk and install on a fresh disk. Then connect the oldt drive as a data drive (not a boot drive), see what you can copy over to your new drive. After that start looking into recovery utilities for any files you could not copy over.
That would be a safe method. Even safer way is to duplicate your drive and then try and recover the copy and keep the original in case you need to try again using other methods).
Least safe is to try recovering the drive without making a duplicate first using recovery tools. Usually if you find out what was happenning you can determine what virus and look up most appropriate recovery method.
If you want to use anti virus software AVG is free.

I personally would get a live CD of linux. Puppy linux or knoppix. Your choice, just anything that will boot from the CD.
Boot it and attach an external and copy the data from there.
Then nuke the drive and do a fresh install. Get a copy (its free) of DBAN and do a quick wipe.

Let us know how you went in recovering your data.
Also if you do recover files it is important to know what virus you had so you can see what it does to your disk. Some are just a nuisance while others modify files and/or directories. The reason this is important is to prevent you from infecting the new setup with any files you recovered (or hidden files) that have the virus in them.

THIS! If you got the PC Tools or Windows Anti Virus virus/malware, then DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT restore using system restore, it install itself into those files.
As long as you are coping pure files like .mpX's and stuff you should be fine. Becareful with PDFs, I suggest getting away from Adobe because of it security flaws. Try Foxit or Sumatra PDF
