Data error crc

Hi guys,
i have a wd 1 tb external hard drive for storage, however it is in fat 32 format. Now i want to convert it to ntfs without losing any data so i back up the drive and get to cmd console and type convert x: /fs:ntfs where x is my drive letter.
after couple of minute checking and stuff a messgae come up said inconsistant data, so i went ahead and use chkdsk /f and do it all over again. However, this time another message say data error CRC.

Anyone know what's is wrong?

If you've backed up all the data on the drive already, then why can't you just right-click the drive in Windows Explorer and use the Format function? It will format the drive with NTFS by default, no?

How can you restore the partition to NTFS that backed up as FAT32?
Defragement and check disk several times, microsoft official has said that chkdsk may miss some errors, more times chkdsk is required.

As a general rule, backing up data does not preserve the file system the data resided on.

FAT32 is highly inefficient on large volumes, which is why Windows won't let you format a 1TB drive as FAT32.

chkdsk is a good recommendation, though.

well, it's 1tb i dont have any other exter hard drive to back that drive up so i have to rely on the convert command which usually for me at least convert the drive into ntfs without removing the file.
