Data error crc
Hi guys,
i have a wd 1 tb external hard drive for storage, however it is in fat 32 format. Now i want to convert it to ntfs without losing any data so i back up the drive and get to cmd console and type convert x: /fs:ntfs where x is my drive letter. after couple of minute checking and stuff a messgae come up said inconsistant data, so i went ahead and use chkdsk /f and do it all over again. However, this time another message say data error CRC. Anyone know what's is wrong? |

If you've backed up all the data on the drive already, then why can't you just right-click the drive in Windows Explorer and use the Format function? It will format the drive with NTFS by default, no?

As a general rule, backing up data does not preserve the file system the data resided on.FAT32 is highly inefficient on large volumes, which is why Windows won't let you format a 1TB drive as FAT32. chkdsk is a good recommendation, though. |

well, it's 1tb i dont have any other exter hard drive to back that drive up so i have to rely on the convert command which usually for me at least convert the drive into ntfs without removing the file. |
