Angry Adaptec RAID 5 issue

Hello,
I have a fair amount of RAID experience, but I am not sure what I am missing.
I have an Adaptec 3200S, i have a 5 drive RAID 5 array. The drive at ID 1,2 showed failed, both in bus and under array. Array showed degraded. I replaced the failed drive. Under normal operation I had drives 1,1-1,5. Now that I have replaced the faulty drive, it shows up as 1,2 as the original had, but now there is a 1,0 status missing. I never had a 1,0 until I replaced the failed drive. Also, now that I have an addition drive (ghost image of some sort??) that isn't actually there, the RAID section shows 1,1 optimal 1,0 missing, and 1,3-1,5 optimal, array status degraded, and no 1,2 which is what failed and was replaced to begin with.
To me this seems asinine, that when I replaced a drive and used identical SCSI ID's, that is generates a new ID for the drive that isn't there.

I have gone into the rebuild array section, and it does nothing at all when I select it.

I know I have fixed a problem like this some time ago, but, for the life of me I can't remember how I did it.

Thanks in advance!

Did you tell the RAID software your are replacing drive? Generally you have to inform the software that you want to remove bad one, take bad off, install the new one and inform the software that you want to add it (or you may use pre-installed unused).
