Hi all!
First of all, this is my first post, although I've been browsing this forum for a long long time and soaking up some good info
But I think I can finally be the one to point out a new product that someone hasn't already posted! LOL
Like the title says, there's a free beta version program out that will let you transfer your currently open web pages to another computer on your network with just a couple of click of the mouse from a fairly new website called StarDotNet (stardotnet.com/software)
It's called "Page Flinger".
To some, this might not be a big deal, but for me, I surf with lots of open windows and tons of tabs open. What I hate most is when I have to change computers because the one I'm on needs a reboot, or my main PC in my living room which is hooked up to my big screen TV is being taken over by my wife to watch her soaps
This is one of those things that came out that let me be mobile not only with my data, but with what I'm currently doing. So I can go from my PC to my laptop, or vice-versa and still have all my news or geeky pages open.
Just for everyone's information, I do know someone from the team who it working on this from previous projects, and I am beta testing it, as well as alpha testing some other projects that will be coming out in the near future, so I did get some of the first versions of this when it was really buggy. But now, it works great! It also requires absolutely no configuration: Just run the program on more than one computer on your home network, and they will automatically find each other, and then allow you to send web pages to each other.
The only drawback is that it won't work between a computer that's sharing an internet connection (using ICS), and the computer that it's sharing the internet connection with. But it will work on any basic home network. This has to do with public and private IP addresses. But, I'll tell you now that the next version coming out this weekend has fixed this issue. I know because I've already tested it out
Also (and I don't know if I'm supposed to say this yet) the version I'm testing now will also synchronize your bookmarks between computers, and also synchronize cookies. The cookie synchronization will allow you to be logged into a webpage like facebook or devhardware, transfer your page to another computer, and be automatically logged in and at the same page without have to login again. But because of security, the cookie transfer feature won't be available until the transfer can be secured and encrypted between clients.
Please try it out and post up what you think either here or on the Page Flinger website. I'm pretty sure this is the first post anywhere about this new software, and it needs some more testing. Please also mention what version of Windows and Internet Explorer you are using.
FYI, this has been built from the ground up on Windows 7 using Internet Explorer 8 and 9, but it should also work on Vista and IE7.
Hope you find it useful and it gets added to the "Useful Freeware Database" thread, and I hope my first post was a good one
Cheers
