No sound in Firefox or IE

Hey all,

I'm experiencing an annoying problem at the moment. As you can see by the title, i'm not getting any sound in either Firefox or IE. I can get video all well and good but no sound, i'm talking sound as in YouTube/Myspace/Flash etc. etc.

No matter what i try, re-installing, updating, i cant get it work... i did a bit of googling and found some registry fix, but that didnt work either.

I was hoping maybe someone here has had the same problem and could suggest a remedy?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

EDIT: btw, all my other sound works... Winamp/WMP/Games etc.

have you tried re-installing flash player, or just firefox?

also in FF go to the about:plugins page (simply type about:plugins into the address bar) and check that flash player is installed properly.

i found a few solutions

Some people have had a problem with sound after installing adobe flash player, i found loads of solutions to this on the adobe forum...ok it doesnt let me put in a web adress, email me on chrispepper1989 followed by an at symbol followed by gmail dot com (sorry it doesnt like emails either lol) and ill send you the link!!

look particularly at Gilhooley and BilalM explantations and solutions, apparently adobe sometimes removes a registory string called wavemapper and this is the problem look on the forum for more details.

OR you could just be like me and didnt realise the obvious, personally i had tried to set up a 5.1 surround sound system with normal speakers however i decided that i would rather have sound through rear and surround speakers....and then forgot about it....and gues what internet sounds only come through the FRONT speakers!!! i felt such a noob , but do check it anyway, theres no point in trawling through the adobe forum if the solution is actually the front speakers!

as i cant put in a web address here is Gilhooleys full pst:
"YES! I fkin solved it!! Something breaks your registry settings under [HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32] so the Wave connection is missing, then it dosent matter if you have all you vp6 or mp3 codecs installed. Save the lines below as a textfile with a reg ending, like "missing.reg" and 2x click it to import it to your registry and your golden Or if you have most of them, "Wavemapper" is the one flash is looking for.

Oh my god ! I was searching for a solution to this problem for a while. But it sounds like you're all right, I didn't realise the obvious. And I want to thank you soooooo much because it's probably coming from that 5.1 with normal speakers problem (actually I've a 5.1 sound card with a 2.1 speaker and 2 normal speaker ! That's maybe a little more strange )
I'm at work now, so I can't verify if it's coming from this explanation but actually I've no more doubt.

edit : excuse my english

I found a FiX!!!!

So my problem was the same like many others.... what I noticed is i was getting no sound only via IE while playing flash videos.... i am not sure on the coding of these programs but i read that IE and Flash only play thru the front speakers of your sound card.... onboard or external .... in the pic is how i hooked up my 5.1 speakers....
iinaka
net
SLASH RiAcirca84
SLASH misc
SLASH flashfix jpg

YOU HAVE TO FORMAT IT RIGHT... LOL SORRY FOR PUTTING A LINK.. BUT IT IS NEEDED FOR THIS PROBLEM...

When hookin up your speakers... be sure not to be fooled and just plug your wires (which should be 3 wires that lead to ur sound inputs on your computer) in .... make sure you hook the rear to the rear... center to the center... and your front speakers... to your front input.... i made the mistake and hooked it up to my damn side... ..... lol so when i set up my sound settings.... i chose 5.1 but didn't get anything from my front ...

see if that works... if not give me an IM on aim or msn ...
aim = riacirca84
msn = riacirca84 at hotmail dot com

hope this was useful... now back to youtube and free tv episode streaming!!! google tv-links

this worked!!!

Windows Vista volume mixer

1. Open Firefox and visit a site that should play sound.
2. Click the volume icon in the Windows task bar.
3. Click Mixer. The Volume Mixer window will appear.
4. Make sure the Firefox slider isn't at the bottom.
