Welcome to our forums, Potchel. There are a few questions we'd like answered so we can best assist you in your endeavor:

What operating system are you using?
What are the partition sizes?
Have you backed up all your data?
Desktop or portable?
What is your target capacity for the C: drive?
Why do you want to enlarge the partition?

He's running a desktop. But yes, a larger drive would be a nice addition, and prices are coming down quite nicely-- I've been eyeballing a 1TB SATA drive for a little more than $100 myself for a home media machine.

Potchel, my first recommendation would be to get a larger drive for data and then repartition the old drive to a single partition and reinstall XP on it.

However, a 20GB partition is decent for a Windows-only partition, if your data and program installations go elsewhere. If you are installing programs on that partition, then you'll probably want to go to 40GB.

There are programs out there that can repartition a drive without losing any data from them, but in my experience they are not entirely reliable, which is why you really need to make a current backup of all your stuff.

It's up to you-- how much work do you want to do? Personally, I like to segregate Windows into its own partition, and have program installations in a partition and my data in a third part. It makes things easier for me when backing up, but it can be a bit of a pain when installing Win and new programs, to be sure-- hacking the Registry to tell it the default Programs directory is somewhere else, editing Preferences for individual programs so they dump their data into the Data drive, rerouting the My Documents areas into the Data drive, ad nauseum.

But then, I got tired of paying out for a copy of XP Pro every time I built a new computer, so I've started using various flavors of Linux, which have their own range of headaches, but segregating sections into separate drives/partitions is pretty easy.

i recommend easeus partition manager which i always used to repartition my drives.

i did not repartition my drives frequently, so i choose a freeware to handle this for me. and this is the most safely partition software i have ever used.
