How do you block porn from appearing on your Mac?
I need to block all porn content from my Mac. My young friend uses the computer and I notice that when she is logging out, she clicks out of porn sites that are opened and tells me she doesn't know how they got there. The question I have is can porn sites pop out of nowhere and show their content out of the blue? Please help and excuse my ignorance in this. Thank you.

Unless you have some form of malware (Trojan, virus, worm, etc.) on your computer doing it for you, then the only reason those sites are popping up is because someone is surfing to internet pages that throw that kind of popup.
The kind of sites that do this are generally porn sites themselves, but also warez, keygen, and torrenting sites; none of which a proper young lady should be associating with.
I'm not terribly familiar with Macs, I do believe that there are parental controls in OS X; there may also be some content filtering built into your internet router/switch.
Otherwise, there are third-party tools like NetNanny.

The only bulletproof way of blocking these types of sites is by means of active content filtering. This is a program or browser plugin that actively monitors web requests and selectively blocks them based on their content and source. Some parental control software works this way. Here's a comparison of several leading products. Try to find the one that best suits your needs and budget.

How do you block porn from appearing on your Mac?
There are two primary ways to filter Porn web sites.
Modify the windows hosts file
Locate your HOSTS file. The hosts file is located in different places depending on your Windows version.
For XP/VISTA/7 it is located in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC directory.
For 2000 it is located in the C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC or C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC folder, depending on the nature of your Windows install
To view the contents of this file, browse to the location of the file and double click on it. You will be asked whether you want to search the internet for a program to open the file or if you wish to choose from a list. Choose the list option and open the file with Notepad. You can now view all of the websites that are being blocked.
To manually block a site, go to the bottom of the file and on a new line type “127.0.0.1 siteyouwanttoblock” without using quotes. This will block siteyouwanttoblock. Repeat the process for any other sites you wish to block, and then save the file by going to File>Save.
Open DNS
If you want to filter what can and can NOT be seen on the Internet, you can use OpenDNS. Schools and government office use it and its free.
Configure your account to block objectionable sites.
Set your internet settings to use the OpenDNS IP addresses as your domain name servers.
