Ok honestly, how can an energy source be over 100% efficient. If what we think is 100% efficient and then some is getting more energy then is it really over 100% efficient, or are they just finally unlocking the true potential in that source and just finally getting it to the 100% efficiency. And energy cannot just appear, or be created, like mistered was saying. You must use something and change it somehow to change one type of energy in another, at which you get to the 100% limit, because you can just take the energy and multiply it freely after you convert it from whatever you are using to create the energy from the first place. But that article goes one step further and is pretty much saying that they are converting this infinite amount of energy, well from nothing.

And true you can not get 100% efficiency in power generation,
About the best we poor dumb humans can is 15- to 20%.

I saw this on the RSS feed as well. didn't register though.

It's interesting to note that all of our power comes from the turning of turbines with steam or water or air.

Even nuclear power is turned into steam to turn turbines.

No Cy I did not misread MisterEd. He said that you need a source for energy, which is what I was saying. Energy cannot just be created from pretty much nothing, or it cannot be created over 100% because then it really is coming from nothing. Then there is no source, like Mistered said.

If Einstein was wrong is saying that the speed of light is a constant (which he was, check the wiki on 'speed of light') then what's to say anything based off of that assumption and others like it, for which all of physics is based off of, isn't also wrong? I'm not saying they're completely wrong, but I'm saying there are some exceptions that were impossible to find when they came up with their 'laws' which have since been discovered, and this could be one of them.

Very true Drumz. If only we could travel at the speed of light, then we would turn into energy lol. Maybe that is the secret, getting stuff to travel at the speed of light lol, but it still uses up energy and other things to get it moving that fast, and of course you would need something to propel to get moving that fast. Crazy Crazy Physics.

I've always wondered, if you could give a magnet a push start, and have it in a cylinder where it was always being repelled, could it spin forever? or rather, the few thousand years it takes for the magnets to lose their power.

Theoretically I am sure you could. But it would be a matter on getting everything perfect, make sure that the magnetic field was the perfect strength and distance from the spinning magnet. Any little miscalculation though and it wouldn't be as effective at keeping it going.

Saying that I wonder why we haven't tapped the natural, awesome power of magnets.

Because they can screw up a lot of other things. They can effect electric fields and stuff, but they do have lots of power, its just a matter of using it in such a way, that it well can be useful.

the problem with energy conversion in the way we do it, is we run a conductor through a magnetic field, which creates current.

there are two problems with this. firstly, we have to actually move the conductor. secondly, the magnetic field actually resists the conductor's movement, because the current created also produces a magnetic field, which stops it's movement. something called Lenz's Law (i love studying A-level physics) .
