Dear Folks:
This is the biggest break through in AC I've seen. My only question is if there is a maintainence issue with the build up of deposits of any sorts in the channels due to poor water quality. http://www.coolerado.com/NewsAndNotable/DelphiIdalexCoolerado.htm Erich |

Somewhat similar to commercial cooling towers, only it uses defined airflow/water paths, rather than letting gravity and ambient external airflow do the the work. The efficiency is quite impressive. But I've seen saltwater systems work very effectively when engineered right. HEck, in all honesty, most salt-solutions can be made into cooling units (or anything whereby halides can be disolved).
Is DI water a requirement? Kinda reminds me of misters used for hot-running turbocharged engines. more details would be great.

Yes, it's a variation on evap cooling, but with the cooled air going into the space at around the same humidity as the outside air is. I would guess that distilled or heavily filtered water is the only to go else mineral deposits will kill this thing in a season or two. I always wanted to drop an evap right in front of the AC intake, so the AC cooling coils could pull some of the water back out of the air before it gets inside. This system is obviously more efficient than that, though.
Once again, you provide us with some entertaining new technology, erich. Keep at it ![]()

They need an ERV and a TFP
Dear Folks:
They claim to get "wet bulb" temps, and I dought Delphi (a 33 billion $ corp) would agree to produce it if it did not work. It's not a "swamp cooler", there is no transfer of moisture to product air. Althought in high humidity applications , to be most effective, they must use an additional component for dehumidification, IMHO, like Honeywell's " Perfect window" desicant wheel ERV. I've have sent them e-mails to this effect, am waiting for their reply. They claim to be able to purge all mineral build up, but I do not believe the "all"part. I also suggested to them to include a turbulent flow percipitator type air filter in their design. Like the Netec ACS 2000R, that has a 5 year maintainance cycle, and removes 97% of particles down to 0.1 microns to reduce their units maintainance. I totaly agree with you about their terminology, "psychrometric" what a meaningless term, maybe enthalpic is more what they should have used. I've posted them your coments and will report back here any answers to your questions. Thanks for the feedback, and please e-mail me if you have any other concerns Erich shengar@aol.com |

Sorry that's Nutech not Netech

Actually, I think the word psychrometric might be referring the actual name of the term describing the process, since it is akin to using a sling psychrometer (I don't miss those days)
I understood what you/they meant about the effect- I understood its not a TRUE evap cooler, moreso an enclosed evap cooler. In essence, this type of AC unit is VERY much like a heatpipe; think of it that way. |

a sling psychrometer ? that's measuring relative humidity right? Nice analogy,,,,, a heat pipe with water as the working fluid..........but wouldn't that be an enthalpic working fluid? Erich |

Hey! We resemble that remark! ![]() |

As far as an Enthalpic Fluid: yeah... closed loop- or do I need to read more on this? I might have inferred more than I should have (sometimes I can't see the forest for the trees!) |

I always get a kick out of people in office parks talking about how aesthetically pleasing those pretty fountains and waterfalls are...
Little do they realize thats part f the cooling system! |
