Exclamation 'Brain' in a dish plays flight game.

A Florida scientist has developed a "brain" in a glass dish that is capable of flying a virtual fighter plane.

The "living computer" was grown from 25,000 neurons extracted from a rat's brain and arranged over a grid of 60 electrodes in a Petri dish.

The brain cells then started to reconnect themselves, forming microscopic interconnections.

Gradually the brain learnt to control the flight of the plane based on the information it received about flight conditions.

I think that this will be able to help scientists in the study of the brain, give more underestanding in how it works, and study its disfunctions

Scary scientists...

and I thought genetically engineering cats was bad, this is even worse, remember, the brain can eventually come up with it's own thoughts and ideas, and if it was ever allowed to fly a plane, that might be bad.

*heh* Yeah, that's something I remember reading about. Believe it or not, that technology was being eyed for assistance in the creation of what they call "h" powered flying cars. The problems with flying cars is that we'd all need pilots licences. But what if it was as easy to drive a flying car as to ride a horse? (hence the "h"). That's where a lot of this is going. But would this then make the flying car the first "official" cyborg, or does Prof. Warrick still hold that title?

(<shameless self promo>the following article covers this a bit:
