Big Bang
I was wondering what everbody thought about the big bang and what do you all know like what different therios do you all know and I am sorry if this has already bin done or not for I did not see it on eny of the topics.

I remember reading alot about this in Stephen Hawking's book, "A Brief History of Time."
It has alot to do with space being finate vs. infinate as I remember. Hmm...something perhaps better answered using Google.

Bill Bryson - A Short History of Nearly Everything, makes learning FUN!!!
its full-o-facts and is a really great book!
by reading it i learnt such useless information as this for example: When the 'Big Bang' first happened the unvirse doubled in size every 10^-34, thats 0.0000000000000000000000000000000001, seconds!!! now that is damned fast!!

What I know about the reigning theory is that the universe was contained in a single-point singularity (say that three times fast), and when it exploded, it took some significant amount of time before the universe cooled enough for so-called elementary particles to coalesce and join together, forming atoms and such.
Most of the early universe was hydrogen, a little helium and elementary particles. Dark matter may have been around, too-- hard to say, no one knows what it is, if it even exists.
All the heavier elements are the result of stellar fusion and novae/supernovae. Isn't that a fun concept?

Well yes I learned that in a vidoe that are science teacher showed us cuz I got him to show it even thow it was way off base of what we are learning.
but does enybody know about other therios like a the ones that the big banged happen then the universe expands then contracts and it happens again or it doesnt has enybody read eny papers or enything about that stuff

Well, the two theories you are talking about both rely on the premise that the Big Bang happened as we just discussed, the difference is in the mathematics-- depending in variables we don't have hard numbers on, such as the amount of Dark Matter and its distribution, the Hubble constant and the q constant, things could go either way. Read here for amplifying information.

Yes, something about the "Big Bang" vs. "Steady State" theory...I remember reading about some astonishment in the scientific community when some of the evidence they were finding seemed to indicate that the universe would go on expanding forever.

Hmm has enybody read Isaac Asimovs essay on The big bang its in a couple of his science books and it talks about it liek different theory like a universe that expands contracts then a nether big bang then expand then contract it was realy a great paper

The confusing thing for me regarding the big bang theory (aside from the fact that i'm an idiot) is that to my way of thinking it doesnt explain where it "all" came from anyway.
I ask someone "where did the matter in the universe come from?" and the standard reply is, well you see once upon a time.....point of singularity....overcame inertia...exploded into being....maybe some cash will explode into being in my wallet.....blah blah blah!?!?!?!?
It could have been a very tiny speck or it could have been like a football complete with laces but i'm scatching my pimpled head wondering how the heck that explains where it came from...
Oh now i get it ,it wasnt created,it has existed eternally....now i have a headache.
Okay plz reply now with ridicule and abuse but keep the language clean

I agree with OneBadPig. What did the "Big Bang" originate from? What was there before the "Big Bang?" Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Big Bang Theory conflict with the Law of Conservation of Energy? Energy cannot be created nor destroyed so what did the energy from the Big Bang come from? Something we'll never know.

There's a therory of an Oscillating Universe. Many scientists believe it expands and contracts. Basically Big Bang, expansion, contraction, Big Conversion... and then all over again.

The scary question then of course is, "What if there *wasn't* a before?" But that takes us almost out of the realm of science and into the realm of religion, and I try to avoid discussing that.
