Then what are you? I am agnostic. I keep my mind OPEN, I like to think, not sit around like a blundering idiot, I like wondering, not sticking to one single stupid idea. I never said I believe or disbelieve the "big bang" theory, I was just stating to shun it out was closed minded and ridiculous. Seriously, I didn't even make a post to start with, I just commented on your post you made. You said something publically, and I felt invited to retort. Please, except my apology for slapping a "religion lable" on you, I will try not to hastly pass judgement on you again. For the time being, I will not furthur post in this thread, if you wish to speak with me, devH has a very nice PM system for everyone to use. edit: btw, here is some great reading on the "big bang" theory. Read it all, make your own judgements, and decide, but please do think hard about it. Last edited by alexkerhead : March 6th, 2005 at 11:08 PM. |

My religion teacher said to us one day, "we are trying to reason about a infinite problem with finite minds".
I don't know if thats an original statement on his part but it's damn true!

So, who cares if we have finite minds, I don't know what religion I am so I won't comment on that. But where would we be without our curiousity? If we do not wonder and only stuck to one path than we might believe that one human was superior to the rest, and they would become our dictator and our only way of life. If we go so far in the field of science and keep on progressing then we will be one step further to knowing the truths of the universe. I only want to know the truth with straight facts not faith, faith is not a good argument for either religion or science. And most of all in the end people should have the choice of what they want to believe, even if it is proven wrong (not including barbaric faiths). If you are truly happy with your religion, you will be at peace with what other people think.

"Narrow is the Way and few are they that find it." -Jesus of Nazareth If you think you are going to convert everyone to your religion, even if it can be objectively proven true, you are wrong! Don't believe me? Dont argue with me, argue with Jesus. |

Think this: 4 forces in the universe. Each plays its part. 2 are really acting as one force: the weak atomic force and electromagnetic force- often called the electroweak-force. Anyway, there's tons of good info on this if you google it...
... and thats regardless of your chosen patch of belief. I've read a goodly number of top theorists now think dark matter may take up more than the 80% of the unverse's mass- some are now saying as much as 98%. Kinda freaky, eh?

Progamer hit the nail right on the head. We are finite, and logic dictates that even an infinite oscillation of big bangs will never be completely understood by us...
Point is...something had to exist eternally. Something. Either its matter/energy or its god who made matter and energy. Alexkerhead also made a good point. Never stop being inquisitive. Never stop being curious. Investigate, test and think critically and objectively about everything you encounter. There is no such thing as an agnostic. There is no such thing as a person without a spirtual persuasion. An agnostic believes either they cannot know or they haven't discovered something yet...am I correct? However, they've got to believe something. They may bounce back and forth from evolutionism to religion or whatever else...but the point is they believe something to some extent...IMHO at least. I for one cannot accept that matter was from the begining and will endure into eternity. My life here is nothing more than a random gathering of the right atoms into the right molecules forming the right subcellualar structures forming the right cellular structures forming the right anatomical structures. I am born, I grow, I learn, I work, I die. And that is the end of me. If I'm 'lucky', I'll make a lot of money - have a beautiful wife - have a good family - have a nice house - make an impact on my culture for good...etc. In the end...I die. I may have made an impact on the world, but for how long? 200 years, they may still remember me...2000 years my life will exist no more. Neither in material form, nor in the thoughts of others. My footprint on the world endures only for a time...then washes out with the tide... Yet, you exlaim! I learned a lot. I studied the big bang! I'm intelligent, I'm smart, I want to know more, I gave myself to the fullest to discover! For what? For what? What will it matter in 2000 years? Add to collective human knowledge? Gee, that does you a lot of good when you're dead and rotting in the earth... I don't know guys. Just seems like...without a purpose...all is naught. |
