PSU 6-pin PCI-E power connectors
Ok, so I posted recently about upgrading my PC in the cases section about whether or not I should buy a new case. I ended up buying the new case and a new PSU for the case, it comes with two 6-pin connectors but they both stem from a single cable, but split at the first connector, it doesn't look like a y-connector which I read from my 8800GTX manual is BAD and that you should not use a y connector under any circumstances. So I was wondering, could I use the power connectors? I bought the PSU as it was labeled as having 2 connectors on the website.
Help is appreciated, thanks. |

It should be fine. The concern with the y-connector is that the card manufacturer doesn't want you to have any other devices hooked up to the same rail as the video card, if it can be helped. Additional devices on the rail draw current and can cause a voltage drop, which would degrade performance, if not damage the graphics card hardware.
In this case, the twin 6-pin cable should be its own video rail, so no worries.

Ok, thanks for the assistance.
There is only one set of connectors coming from the single 12V rail on the PSU so it should be good. |
