New country, new PSU ?

Hello everyone !

I have recently moved from France to England and my computer has been very slow: i mainly use it for games and it cannot handle anything high-end even though it used to run Skyrim on ultra high graphics.

I have tried to find the problem, but everything seems to work fine and nothing seems to have changed between when i used it in France where it worked fine and now in England: RAM's fine, i cleaned the Registry, reinstalled the video card Drivers, checked malware, nothing.

However, I have checked the CPU temperature, and it is cooler than it should be. I was wondering if that means the computer is not recieving enough power. Another forum has hinted that it could be not simply a voltage change (easily fixed with a transformer) but also a frequency problem (which needs a new PSU). Of course i am hesitant to make such a purchase and installation without being sure, so i came here for further advice.

Any help is deeply appreciated, thank you !

Both France and England run on a mains standard of 230V and 50Hz.

So it is unlikely to be anything to do with the mains side (unless you are in an area with bad power), even if you were that is taken care of within the power supply and does not effect the voltages supplied to the system.

Saying it runs cooler means that it is not running as hard, so the thing to consider is what is stopping it from running at full performance.

First check power settings within your operating system, maybe it has somehow been chaged to run in low power mode (high energy efficiency).

You should be able to go into the BIOS or a program within your operating system (for example Intel desktop utilities) on an intel or some other utility to check intenral voltages if needed.

Of course if you used to overclock your machine (or it was when you first got it) and cleaned the registry then there is a chance you may have lost those original settings somewhere along the way.
