Storage Mouse

How impossibly hard do you think it would be to mod a standard optical mouse and make it into a storage mouse?

I have a thumb drive that I took out of the case, a mouse that I've opened up, some glue, and a soldering iron. I'm ready for action, so the question is, can it be done?

P.S. I'm new to the modding scene, so I realize I'm likely jumping in over my head.

Talking the point

In the spirit of so many programmers, engineers, and modders before me, as you ask "why", I ask "why not?"

I would think that you would have to have the equivalent of a hub inside the mouse with the mouse itself on one port and your storage device on another.

BTW, it's been done already.

I guess I'm getting in a bit over my head this early in the game. I know a bit about hubs in terms of networking, but... I think I need a bit more knowledge before I try to do something like this. I really am just looking for some things I can do to get my foot in the door so to speak. I'm happy with my skills as a programmer, so now I want to go further and try to do something different, ya know? Haha guess I'll need to come up with a new project.

As far as it already being done, so what? Ever hear the song, "It's all been done"? haha. I come up with many many ideas only to find out some major corporation already did it. I don't let that stop me from trying to realize those ideas! The true benefit in a project like this (and so many others) isn't the resulting product, but the skills you gain by trying to reach that result. That's what I've always believed anyways.

Hrm... Don't see all that much of a point, but it would be nice for say a laptop, just one less thing to worry about.
