Restore keyboard mapping

Anyone know of a registry tweak for restoring keyboard mapping?

I tried running key tweak, but it gave me an error:

"No mappings currently found in registry and no mappings were added"

So I'm guessing I lost a registry key - or something to that effect.

Thanks in advance.

Hi omrsafteyo,

I did a little reasearch on the term "Keyboard Mapping". The results which I turned up uncovered that this is based on the resgisty. It sounds to me that something along the line deleted this key. I'm not sure if there's any tool to recover this.

It's coming hard to decipher to me, just exactly what has to be done. I've come across a page with a lot of information on this, at PCworld. If you can figure out the key you need, you can create it, and I'd be glad to post the data from the key on my machine.

PCWorld Article

That article talks about several options, including deleting keys and whatnot. See if anything turns up from that article. If nothing turns up from it, then I guess something else may have to be done. Possibly a Windows reformat?

If you were involved in these modifications, an rdisk command before the modifications could have given you the proper backups beforehand. (For next time).

Hope this helps.

If the fact that it was a registry problem was not displayed in my last post - then you were closing your eyes while reading it.

Okay, this can go a couple different way. Open up Registry Editor and check these keys.

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layouts\

and make sure that your keyboard layout is listed....for US keyboard is should be the 00000409 Key. If it doesn't exist, add it.

Then check it's values with the following:

Layout Display Name = @%SystemRoot%\system32\input.dll,-5000
Layout File = KBDUS.DLL
Layour Text = US

If you are missing all of the keys listed, use the attached reg file to add the default values. Rename kbdmaps.txt to kbdmaps.reg and double-click to install it.

Also, try reinstalling the Windows driver for your keyboard.

omrsafetyo agrees: I had a feeling I could rely on you for this one. Cheers!

Thanks Nilpo - I'll test that tomorrow. I had a feeling you would have some sort of .reg for this.

...or did you just make it?? I could see that too.

It's not acting like hotkeys, those ARE hotkeys. It's sounds like your Windows key is stuck down. Look at either of the keys with the Windows logo...press them a few times and make sure they aren't stuck in the down position.

I tried all that to no avail, keyboard was a PS/2 and I switched to a USB and no more problems, might be a motherboard issue as now my front USBs aren't working, I'll recheck the CMOS when I'm done here, hopefully that's all it is..... Thanks
