Require Expert advice on a High End Keyboard & Mouse set up.
Dear Hardware Expert.
I am looking for Expert advice on a keyboard and mouse setup. This set up is for a cubicle desk environment. This set up is for working as efficiently with Windows XP Pro, MS Excel, MS Access, Outlook, Internet Explorer, Itunes, etc… and programming in VBA and VB. It will be used with the Dell Precision M4300 laptop (work gave it to me) and be plugged into the Dell Docking station for M4300 laptop. *************************** Requirements ************************* I am looking for a High End wireless Mouse +Keyboard set-up (combo or non-combo) that will work with a KVM switch (please read below for what I mean by work with KVM switch) I am willing to pay up to $300 (both keyboard and mouse), but would rather spend $200. I need 2 sets, one for home and one for the office. I currently have the Logitech Wave and Logitech MX400, however, SetPoint is not supported by any KVM switch (confirmed by Logitech customer support) so if I plug them into a KVM switch they just act as standard peripherals. In addition to being able to work with a KVM switch I am looking for the following features. In order of Priority. Keyboard. 0. KVM switch compatible software. (This is important but if not possible ignore it and still advise based on the criteria below.) 1. Wireless.... with a good recharging system. Range of Wireless 5 meters + (15 feet) would be nice. 3 meters minimum. 2. Many programmable buttons on the left hand side (At least 5, 10 + would be preferred) so I can easily open programs/ run Macros etc... without using my right hand. Additional Programmable buttons in other locations as well. 3. I really like the Media Control buttons at the top of the Wave. Controlling volume, pausing music, going to the next song etc... I want this to be very convenient too as I listen to music when I work. 4. I prefer the Microsoft layout of the keys (Small Delete Key, location of Page Up, Page Down etc...) It's more common so when I go to work on a foreign keyboard it will be similar to mine. SCROLL LOCK for the KVM switch would be good. Logitech doesn’t have SCROLL LOCK. 5. Comfort is a factor. I like the Cushion of the Wave at the bottom of the Keyboard. Want a similar feature. 6. I like how the Wave (SetPoint) tells me what I am doing when I press a shortcut key. When I pause it briefly says Pause on the screen. Nice feature. Also a decent program (like SetPoint) to set up the special keys etc… 7. If the Keyboard has a dashboard at the top which most do now (I don’t really care about the Dashboard), I want that feature to be able to be dimmed. Sometimes I find it distracting. For example I don’t want to see the time at the top of my keyboard because then I’ll always be checking it. Being able to turn it on and Off (dim it) would be great. 7. I like Keyboard elevated. Want Pegs on the bottom of the keyboard to elevate the top part of the keyboard. 8. Quite keys. I love how quite the keys are on the Wave. 9. Ability to connect to USB if I run out of batteries. (Maybe this is not an issue I never bought a good wireless keyboard.) Mouse. (I don’t really care about DPI, I like my mouse moving quite slowly for Precision positioning… so Precision and accuracy are most important not speed.) 0. KVM switch compatible software. (This is important but if not possible ignore it and still advise based on the criteria below.) 1. Wireless.... with a good recharging system. Range of Wireless 5m + would be nice. 3 meters minimum. 2. Comfort. I really like the feel of the MX400. It fits the hand well, the clicking keys are nice and quiet. I don’t really like the scroll wheel on the MX400. It’s too loose. Needs to be tighter. I don’t care about weights, if it has them, then good. 3. At least 2 programmable buttons on the side, the more the better though. As long as it’s comfortable. 4. Being able to switch to different scroll speed settings would be awesome. Sometimes I want very fine scrolling and sometimes very Fast scrolling. I know the Logitech Revolution has 2 scroll wheels that would work too. 5. The mouse has to have the Side Scrolls functionality so I can move horizontally with the mouse. Thank you so much for your expert opinion and advice. Looking forward to reading your responses. |
