Hell... I got this problem too with my Razormouse Diamondback 1600dpi. I think I only HALF the answer u guys all talking about.
First: I played games with my mouse on resolution 1280x960 with 32-bit and my mouse would jam every time when I play Warcraft III frozen throne. When there is lots of action going on, on the screen, the mouse jams every time. My fast solution is to pull out the mouse from its USB and plug it back in.. What I did till I was tired of this crap after doing it every game I played on the internet (battle.net on Blizzard site for Warcraft iii) Now I found out to make the damn mouse work without interuption it seems when I putted my desktop resolution from 1280x960 32-bit colors to 1280x960 16-bit colors.... Then it would work as fine as it can... for a few days... IT HAPPENNED AGAIN!!! This mouse jammed again for no what reason!!?? So my only I-don't-know-what-the-hell-is-wrong-with-this-freakin-mouse solution is: buy a new mouse what I just did ![]() |

15 years of mouse freezes and counting...
Same problem, but with a longevity twist: my mouse has
stopped working intermittently for the past fifteen years with *different computers*, *different operating systems*, and, of course, *different mice*. What has worked - the only thing that has worked - has been plugging the mouse out and in again, whether PS2, the really old connector before that one that was bigger, the other really really old connector that was boxy in shape with the screws, or my newer USB mouse. Here's what hasn't worked: 1. different drivers (have used a couple dozen; made no difference). 2. different OS (6 different OS'es). 3. different mice (too many to count; at least a dozen). 4. different hardware, motherboards. (too many to count). 5. changing batteries (most of the mice didn't have them). Frequency of problem: on average, about once a day, but sometimes it doesn't happen for weeks. Sometimes with a new computer it won't happen for months, and I begin to hope that this problem has gone away, and I start to forget about it...then it returns! It always returns! It happened twice today! That makes it about the umpteen millionth time! With my latest computer, plugging in and out the mouse crashes it sometimes; this is a new twist. Logitech cordless into USB. Just a comment; I doubt there's any way to fix this. This is the only computer problem I've never been able to fix; I've worked on about a hundred machines, I build computers, program them, install OSes, everything. I've tried everything. What I've concluded is that this is my personal gremlin - a mouse sprite of some species - that has attached itself to me. I know of no-one else who has this problem. I've never seen another problem I couldn't fix. The only thing that might make sense is that since it only affects my own computer, none of the other machines I work on or fix, that perhaps I've been moving some very old virus from machine to machine over the years. I do usually re-use my old hard drive in the next computer, copying everything over. If it is a virus, it must be ancient, and it must be very obscure, because these machines have gone through hundreds of virus scans over the years. Has anyone heard of a strange old virus that disables the mouse? Any other ideas? |

I have the same problem whith a logitech mouse, and having big trouble to find wath can cause this...
after may test, fo sure the problem is NOT... performance or lag problem an old driver that must be updated a battery problem a mouse that must be changed I have few questions, may be we'll be able to find something with that. did you do a bios update recently? Do you have an external usb hard drive? windows version Antivirus and firewall used? do you have the same problem in safe mode? Have you seen any power supply problem rencently? also, I can't reject the possibility of this problem don't have anaugh knowedge to know if it is: a virus infection a conflict whit the network adaptor power supply problem **maybe something there: the mous seems to stops more frequently when the cpu fan runs at higher speed Contact me if you have any solution or question. i'm having this same issue....currently doing alot of tests to figure this out... started with my old microsoft trackball explorer, it was 5yrs old and just died last week, i'm very sad because you cant get them anymore.... so i bought a razer copperhead to try and move on from my loss, but then this started happening....i'll be playing wow, or doing something and the mouse cursor just pauses for a couple seconds, and then resumes.... i've uninstalled and reinstalled the razer driver program, i've also uninstalled the microsoft intellisoft proggie from the trackball... i'm getting the feeling it's a usb port problem....tomorrow i plan to find another mouse and check if it does the same thing... not alot of info on this besides old info saying that cpu processes could lag mouse, usb port being dirty, drivers... about drivers.....i have an asus a8n premium, and like i said earlier a razer copperhead mouse.. do i have to update my windows mouse drivers or should i be fine with razer's? |

Okay, this is my first post here. I am having similar problems described in this thread, so I will start here. If this is an in-correct post, I can move my problem to a new thread. I am just surprised how often this issue occurs.
The problem for me seems to have started when we moved from Windows 2000 to XP, along the way we purchased new PC's. The mouse usually works fine it is working on startup, b ut they sometime fail during normal usage too, just not as often, maybe once every few days. Typically the only way to get the mouse back is to either reboot the PC or unplug the mouse and plug it back in. Everytime the mouse fails either intermentily or on startup, you can tell because the laser will be powered completely off, not just inactive mode. On startup the mouse laser will be powered on, and somewhere between the WinXP knight rider screen and the login the mouse laser will power completely off. Another important detail is that the symptoms fopr me can be easliy reporduced on startup by simply rebooting the PC until fails. It's like playing slots, it is just a matter of time. It seems to fail on startup more frequently, but does fail intermmently still as well, just not as often. We started with IBM optical mouse units which were working fine on Windows 2000. When we purchased new PC's with XP Pro, the IBM optical mouse began to stop working completely at random interval, usually on boot up. I assumed the older IBM optical mouses were starting too fail (maybe all 3 at once, not likely but ok). So we purchased 3 brand new Microsoft basic optical units. The problem continued with brand new units. Here is my experience with the issue of USB mouse dying in action. All mouses we use are USB, we have tried multiple brands with the same results. We also have two different PC brands, COMAPQ and eMachines, both exhibit the same exact issue. We have tried swapping the USB ports, all are plugged directly into the MB. At first I thought it was an issue with USB 2.0, but not sure. All the mice we have including the OLD IBM USB optical, and the brand new Microsoft Basic Optical work perfectly on the old systems running Windows 2000. The problem only occurs with the new PC's running Windows XP. I would like to test the New PC's running Windows 2000 to see if the problem continues to eliminate XP as the culprit (although I have different brands of USB mice running on other XP systems flawlessly). Since the problem occurs with the new hardware, I would assume that the PC MB or Bios maybe at fault. But why 2 different brands of USB optical mouse, and 2 different brands of PC hardware? For now, I am going test the 1 of the units with a PS2 mouse. I am also going to test one of the USB units on a netrual system with windows 2000 (not same hardware though) to see what becomes of this. A simple thing as install a new PC USB mouse and PC should not stop the world from turning, but for me it has. This upgrade has been hell from day one, most problems fall on Windows XP though. The more I dig, this is starting to point to issues with either USB hardware or Motherboard? I have been blaming XP, but I cannot blame Microsoft for everything, as much as I would like too. |

When My mouse went down there was a hardware device icon on my task-bar that never was there before and as long as it was there running, the mouse had no power.
I seen that I had downloaded a Trojan virus, from My-space no doubt, 2 days before this. But my anti-virus took care of it so I thought. I can't seem to find an infected file anywhere. Today I dumped all my Internet downloaded programs, and dumped all cookies. I updated my browser. I also install a removal tool from Microsoft Windows Updates and it reported that I was virus and spyware free. Mouse seems to running OK now. Mouse has not shut down in the last 8 hours of use. The only problem I have now is some of the web sites that I have Bookmarked will not load. I think a virus or a hijacker has infected my computer and Microsoft nor my anti-virus hasn't caught up with it yet. Only time well tell I guess. I'm like you. I think XP sucks and blows. I spend most of the time keeping it updated or it's running way to slow or it just crashes for no reason. Please let me know if anyone knows how to fix this. Thank. Quote:

I've had the same problem with my corded Microsoft optical mouse. I've reformatted and that didn't work. It will be fine for a couple hours and then freeze in the middle of something. The only successful solution (I found) is to unplug it from the USB port and plug it back in (I noticed from this thread others have discovered that, too). I got tired of this and plugged in and started using my old ball mouse, and it is fine--it is not affected. I've tried every USB port and even the USB/PS2 converter and it still dies after anywhere from a couple hours use to about once a day. The mouse is only a little over a year old so I have a hard time believing it is dying. I've Googled this subject 1,000 times with little or no luck. I haven't updated anything or changed any settings. The ONLY thing I can figure out (from reading through this thread) is I did upgrade to IE7, could there be a conflict? But some of you don't have IE7...it is USUALLY when I am online when it happens. I've scanned for spyware and ad-ware. NOTHING WORKS. I've left it plugged in and I notice the light NEVER goes off when it isn't being used, but start using it and it will die shortly...fortunately my ball mouse is also plugged in and I just swap until the next reboot. Drivers and/or batteries are NOT the solution. Neither is a format (tried that). This is driving me crazy!
