No, but I'll try doing what you said.

I ran memtest and found that one of my memory sticks produces errors. However, removing it did not eliminate the problems.
Afterward, I exchanged the mouse with another and the problems went away. Sorry for the trouble. |

Hrm... maybe it was a combination of the memory and the mouse?

I had the same problem and it seems to be related to the USB ports . I have connected my mouse in the PS2 port using a USB/PS2 adapter and so far, it works...
Hope this helps. ![]() |

My mouse only works in the current window. Need to Press ALT-TAB or Ctrl+ALT+Del
Hi guys
i think im having same problem I have Windows XP Pro SP2. Approximately Every minute something happens with my computer: I can't click anywhere else but in the current window that has the focus. I mean I can move the cursor and click, but nothing happens. I cant change to another window or start a new program or open the start menu - nothing. If I press ALT+TAB or Ctrl+ALT+Del (it starts task manager) it starts working again for a minute (sometimes even 3-4 mins) and then stops. It is very, very annoying. Please help!!! I tried the following, but nothing helped: - Scanned for viruses and spy programs many times with deferent programs - nothing - I tried "netstat" to see if there are any strange connections - none - enabled the windows firewall (our network is behind one so I don't have it enabled) - Disconnected my network drives - closed all programs I don't need - Installed several system diagnostic tools - Tried to see if some new process is running or something strange is happening - nothing - I "googled" every single running process (exec name) just in case it is a spy or virus program. - Disabled my network in case some of our local net machines is infected - no effect - Closed some programs I don't need (like MSN messenger) - I have install the latest windows and IE updates and service packs I don't know what else to do. It is possible this problem to be related to the Internet explore, because it happens more often when there is an explorer opened, but I am not sure. I have IE 6 Sp2. thanks |

Have you tried changing mice to see if it is the mouse? How are you memory resources? To me, it sounds like you're running our of resources, and IE takes up whatever is left and ties up the system. So how much mem and HD space do you have? BTW - I realize that this is a mouse problem, but does seem to be different from the original posting in '03...try to see if there is another thread that might cover future problems...and more recent, then post...but, le's work through this one. peace

I have the same problem and we're not talking about wireless mice only. i have a PS/2 mouse and mine stops working too. even if its on a button or sumthing and I click it, it doesn't work, and I cant move it. sometimes i have to turn it off for 4 to 6 hours for the mouse to start working again and it just stopped working right now. Also, if any of you guys have this problem, use the tab, shift, and arrow keys to use stuff. |

Hey, fullmetal. Welcome to DevH. It sounds like your mouse needs replaced. You can open it up and clean the rollers and such with some rubbing alcohol, but if the buttons freqently stop working, it's probably time for a replacement. Unfortunately, they don't last forever.

Piece of advice.
Never buy a Genius mouse, they will not last longer that 6 months at their best. And i've doubted any of their other products ever since. After reading through all this thread to see what may be causing this problem i'd suggest removing the drivers for the mouse, and allowing windows to re-install them. Then you may want to check your usb drivers if that's the port you are using for the mouse.

This happens to me when a button is stuck pressed (such as the scroll wheel being stuck down, or the 'forward' or 'backward' side buttons being stuck pressed)... Kind of funny, had to see it in Linux to figure out what it was, in windows it would just stop, in Linux it would freak out around the screen in a horizontal line selecting text... good stuff. May solve it, may not, but there's some input.
