Major keyboard and mouse problems
Greetings!
OK, I was using my computer as usual, when my keyboard and mouse both stopped working. I rebooted, but the problem is persisting despite all my attempts to resolve it. I've tried replacing the mouse with a different one (replacing it while the power is off, then rebooting), but that doesn't have any effect. I ran a virus check about an hour before the problem occurred but came up with nothing so virus activity seems unlikely. The main problem is that I can't enter BIOS or load Windows in Safe Mode since the keyboard doesn't work at any time, even during start-up. I've even tried loading the computer with a MS-DOS boot floppy disk, but the keyboard wasn't working at the end of that either. All I can think of now is that my motherboard is completely knackered, but if someone can come up with anything that might work I'll be both very impressed and eternally grateful. Thanks in advance |

No, both keyboard and mouse are PS/2

Additionally, I've been using this set-up with no problems for nearly two years now. The OS is Windows XP.

i have also just had this problem. i was on my comp, with word, aim, and IE running and suddenly my mouse and keyboard just froze. i have a logitech freedom cordless duo with the mouse in the serial port and the keyboard in the usb port. i also had the station for an ati remote wonder controller in another usb port in the rear. i have 2 front usb ports as well and at this time i was connecting my external HD and that was the moment it all froze. now mind u my computer continued to work perfectly, with ims being sent and the cd icon coming on next to the mouse pointer in reference to the cpu reading the HD. but the Hd windows explorer never came up and i thought i had to restart so i did. when i did this and throughout the next 200 times i restarted, it said there was no keyboard detected and i couldnt press delete to go to setup, f1 as it said after the keyboard phrase or f8 to get into safemode. on my stattion for the wireless duo, there are different lights denoting different things. when i just plug in the ps/2 mouse the right light comes on n i press the connect button n the bottom light flashes which means it is trying to connect. however when i plug both the ps/2 mouse and usb keyboard in the right light comes on but nothing happens when i press the connect button. nothing happens also when i plug only the usb keyboard in. when i plug the usb keyboard into the front usb port the bottom light comes on staticly only, no flashing and no other light. im thinking maybe my usb ports are fried but if so then why would the lights on the wireless station still be on and why wouldnt my mouse work if its plugged into the serial port? could both the usb and serial be fried at the same time? i have tried the mouse in another computer and it works but not yet keyboard. it is so necassary to get some answerts to this as i am at college and need my comp for much of my work. any help in solving this would be met with much respect and praise. thank you

Couldn't even get into the machine to do that. Turns out I had a virus that destroyed everything, had to write off 160Gb hard drive and get replaced under warranty, i had Norton 2005 installed and Norton Firewall, but somehow it still managed to get through.... |

Welcome to our forums, jeezbyte. Please note that the problems documented in this thread are more than two years old... I'm pretty sure they have been adequately solved by now.
