Keyboard not working on intial boot up
Hello i'm looking for some assistance i found some old computer bits laying around the house and was intrested to see if i could build a machine well i've now got to the point of it being assembled and when i power up all the fans start running and key board leds flash, the system gives a single beep and the award bios screen appears listing just the processor but nothing else it says push del to enter however the keyboard doesn't work, no lights come on if you push caps lock or num lock. i must admit i'm a bit stuck i've replaced the battery i know the keyboard works in other machines and the fact the leds on the keyboard light up would seem to suggest the port is ok. have pushed every key on the baord to try and get in nothing, also tried pushing multiple keys to get a key board error but nothing. any help / inisght would be appreciated spec below :
M/b Aopen AX6B Slocket adaptor and Celeron 900mhz cpu Seagate barracuda 40gb hard drive floppy disk drive 128 mb sdram 100 mhz Nvidia Rita tnt 2 graaphics card No operating system Oh and the h/d drive sounds like it's whirring round and the keyboard and mouse are ps/2, anyway like i say this was more about could i do it so any inisight would be most gratefully recieved. |

it wouldnt be a usb keyboard would it?
try and find a manual for the motherboard, the single beep to me sounds like the bios has been reset and needs setting again, however im not sure about the keyb's led's flashing, sounds like a keyboard error on that particular motherboard? got any other keyboards you can use on it?

Got a soldering iron? It may be the PS2 port is damaged (cold or broken solder joints, for example).
If it's a relatively new board, you might try a USB keyboard...

hello there i've tried a USB keyboard and i've been over the joints around the keyboard with a soldering iron and still nothing i've also noticed the award bios R1.20 is not recognising the stick of ram that's in the machine is thislikely to have any affect ?
Also if anyone has any idea how those diagnostic cards you buy from ebay work i'd be most grateful the instructions aren't that clear. Thanks |

Do a google search on Pre Post Probe manuals......If you look hard enogh you'll find one to D-Lo.
I got one from ebay myself for .99 cents.....but ya the manuals suck.......I know I couldn't understsnd the broken english. I did find a d-lo from HERE I've had to use mine twice, and both times I fixed my kids comp using the new manual.......it does take a bit of reading to make sure you understand how it works and use the codes...but what an awesome tool........hope this helps ![]()

Are those things any good for diagnosing problems on the board?
I have a known bad board that automatically shuts down, and I'm curious whether one of those things would haelp me isolate the failure. |
