Can i boot my system from my wireless 360 controller?
since my 360 went bust i thought to make the most of the wireless controllers that i had left over so i bought a wireless adapter for windows ... my query is - could i boot my PC using these ? i found a application that facilitates the use of the mouse pointer while in windows but ... i would like to extend that ...

It's not a wireless adapter as in wirleless internet. Its usb adapter for your 360 controller to work on your PC. There are some boards that will allow this the asus p5w for example comes with a remote that is able to power up and down a rig. It would probably take a lot of tweaking of a program though... There is always a way ![]()

Im pretty sure there would be a way to bind a key to a certain function that would allow the system to boot.. well that is if the USB will even be powering the receiver while the system is off.. I have a solution though... Don't ever turn your PC off and just use the controller to bring it out of sleep ![]() Ok, but really.. I doubt its really all the possible in all seriousness. It wouldn't be hard to get it to be able to shut windows down, since that can be done with a simple software command, just like you could do to get your computer to wake up from sleep mode. However to actually boot the PC you need to physically complete the circuits in the motherboard in order to jump it, and get everything running. That is not possible with a simple software command... He is correct. Thermaltake has a product (click here) that you can add to your computer that among other things, turns your computer on via remote. The key would be to try and figure out what exactly they have done and trying to emulate it. I'm assuming it wouldn't be all that difficult. |
