New PC does not work

I got my parts from bestdirect.ca and I did the assembly by myself, according to the instructions I received.

The Problem: When I turn the PC on, there is nothing on the monitor and it's like the monitor is not connected to the pc (although it is).

A few facts:
- the monitor is working because this is my old monitor
- I thought that the new video card may be broken, but I tried my old video card and it's the same deal, nothing on the monitor.
- when I turn the PC on, the power supply fan, cpu fan and video card fan are working
- also, the green led on the motherboard is on
- my DVD is also working (when I press eject, the tray or whatever it is called, it comes out)
- my buddy has the same configuration (except the tower and video card) and it works for him

That is pretty much it. Any help would be appreciate it.

Here's my config:

- power supply: Corsair TX750W 750W ATX 12V 60A 24PIN ATX Power Supply Active PFC 140MM Fan

- HDD: Hitachi Deskstar P7K500 500GB SATA2 7200RPM 16MB 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM 3YR MFR Warranty

- RAM: G.SKILL F3-10666CL9D-4GBNQ PC3-10666 4GB 2X2GB DDR3-1333 CL9-9-9-24 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit

- CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition Triple Core Processor AM3 2.8GHZ 7.5MB Cache 95W 45NM Retail Box

- Motherboard: ASUS M4A78T-E ATX 790GX Socket AM3 DDR3 2PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 2PCI HDMI Video Sound GBLAN Motherboard

- VIDEO CARD: XFX Radeon HD 4870 750MHZ 1GB 3.6GHZ GDDR5 PCI-E 2XDVI HDCP Video Card

Do you get any POST error beeps?

You could have a bad stick or RAM. Try only using one stick at a time, and see if the computer will POST.

It sounds as if your motherboard may be shorting out in your case. Did you hook up the computer outside of the case and test it before you put in the case? It is always a good idea to do the OS install on a custom build before you put in the case to verify that everything is in working order as it can quite frustrating having to take it all out again to test if there are issues as you are having.

Tkae it out and try it again then report back

Plug the monitor into the motherboard SVGA connector first. Boot up, go into the BIOS settings and change the graphics default to add-in card (or words to that effect).

Save, exit, turn it off, then move the monitor cable over to the video card.

way to go D1!!

Totally overlooked that one.

That is EXACTLY the issue as those (crappy)AMD boards have onboard video that it is defaulted to. It has been so long since I played with one of those boards..........now I remember why

I have tried this and it did not work.

I also did a bench test and I still get the same problem.

Hi there.

Since you built it yourself, you shouldn't have a problem taking it apart? If so...

Remove the main board and everything else from the main board, no cards no ram NOTHING, connect the PSU and, and plug the hard drive power (only the power to load the PSU) and the vga monitor see if it beeps, it should beep.

If it does turn off the power add ram, power up.

Continue to add things until you find the problem, if it is an intel P4+ there is a 4 pin connector that HAS to be connected so the cpu will have power, check that too, the plug is NEAR the cpu.
