HP ProBook 4520s 3G module no longer working

HP ProBook 4520s 3G module no longer working - SETUP does not see the hardware as present, but very infrequently the hardware shows up (ubuntu 12.04), which leads me to suspect a faulty module or some or other connection problem (have checked the hardware and physical connections seem ok).
Suugestions?
