If you don't mind, add in a part about SATA and needing the damned floppy for windows to recognize the device. Half the problems I see are people not reading that part of the manual that says "put the godforsaken drivers on a disk, and hit F6 immeadiately after windows starts it's CD boot process"...

Serial ATA

Similar to IDE but the data cables are smaller and each channel only supports one device. Hooking up the data cables is simple just hook one end of the cable to the motherboard’s controller and the other end to the drive. The jumper settings can be left at default. Most SATA drives have both a standard 4-pin connector and a SATA power connector. If a SATA power is present us it if not the standard 4-pin will do fine.

Installing an Operating System (Windows XP) on Serial ATA Drive

Installing on SATA is just like installing on an IDE drive except one vital step. After it is told to boot from a CD-ROM a blue screen will be displayed when the blue screen is displayed press F6. This tells the setup that you need drivers for SATA or RAID. When the installer is ready it will prompt for drivers. Hit the S key to select a different location. Insert the floppy with the drivers (usually supplied with motherboard or can be downloaded off the manufacturer’s site) and press enter. Then select the proper drivers from the list. After this the installation is standard as above. Note: Anytime you boot Windows from a CD-ROM you will need those drivers to see any SATA hard drives. This is necessary for using the control console or repairing Windows so don’t loose that disk.

is there anyway of knowing if each component of the computer is installed correctly? because i just built a comp and everything appears to be working (mobo flashes a green light, i can see the processors cooling unit spinning, the dvd drive opens up, and the LEDs on the case are illuminated) however when i boot everything up the moniter just says no signal. im thinking the graphics card may be installed imporperly but i don't think so. anyway any feed back would be awesome. thanks!
