1333MHz Challenges
Hi Everyone,
I have been having some challenges with a new computer that is using a 1333MHz front side bus. The computer crashes, without any attempt to shutdown Windows XP, it simply powers of, and then powers back up again (as if the reset button has been pressed). When the computer is not crashing it simply freezes, the mouse and keyboard inputs simply don't do anything. I can press CTRL + ALT + DEL until I am "blue in the face", however the computer does not respond. These behaviours are intermittent. I can run the computer for half an hour or so and it won't happen, then suddenly it will happen several times in a row. I am using DDR3 1333 Memory, and the problem I am experiencing only happens when I have a processor plugged in that has a 1333 MHz FSB. Initially I had an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 (1333MHz FSB), and this is when I first noticed the problem. I then installed a Core 2 Duo E4400 and the problems stopped (800 MHz FSB). After the problems stopped I tried another processor, this time I used a Core 2 Duo E6550 (1333MHz FSB), and again the problems returned. This is very strange behaviour, because I do not have any problems when I use a processor with a 800MHz FSB, but when I insert processors with a 1333MHz FSB the problems return. My PC details are as follows: MB: Gigabyte EP45T - UD3LR (BIOS is up to date and supports the Q9550) RAM: Corsair TR3X6G1333C9 (1.5 Volt Version 2.1)- 2 x 2 Gig sticks inserted Any opinions & / or assistance with this will be greatly appreciated. I feel like I am driving a V8 which is only using 4 cylinders! Cheers David |

Thanks for your help....replaced RAM, it is better now!
Hi iamsuperbleeder,
Firstly, thanks for your assistance on this. Secondly I have fixed the issue, which was RAM as you suggested. Turns out that the Corsair RAM I initially installed into the system was not the on Motherboards QVL (Qualified Vendor List)! After installing Kingston memory which is on the MB QVL my system has been more stable. Of course I also installed a 700 Watt PSU before replacing the RAM! LOLCheers David P.S.: When purchasing new systems I am going to give thought to the MB QVL, something that I haven't done in the past. |
