I finally got my new machine up and running after having numerous troubles with the motherboard. Well now that I finally have this one up and running, I am wanting to build another one so that I can put it in my room and record TV shows and then burn them to DVD. My question is what heatsink should I use? I don't plan on doing any overclocking or anything intense. I want a nice quiet fan that will still do a good job, since it will be in my room. In my new machine I use a GlobalWin 38 and the thing is noisy, but good. Any other recommendations on what I should put in this machine would be greatly appreciated. System price doesn't matter too much. Currently I am thinking of building with these components.
Gigabyte GA-7VTXH+ Motherboard AMD Athlon 1.4 TBird 266 FSB 512MB RAM 120GB Hard drive (think i need bigger? or should i set up a RAID?) Creative Labs Video Blaster Digital VCR(tv tuner card, unless there is something better) QPS Que DVD (for its compatibility to record pretty much any DVD media, unless there is something better) Graphics and sound card to be determined later Thanks for looking |

As for the HSF, take your pick, AX7 or Pal-8045 with a quiet 80mm. Nvidia has an add-on card called the Personal Cinema. It is a daughter card with break-out box for sweeet video capture and time shifting. Check it for your self. RAID 0 works best for long writes, reads are about the same as a fast single drive so it really dosn't help most people. but for what you plan I would say it's a good idea.
Trust me at your own risk:lol: |

Wow thanks for all the replies guys. Didn't know heatsinks could get that expensive. I should have known. Some pretty wild looking heatsinks though. I still haven't decided which one to go with since I am just looking for quiet not crazy cooling for overclocking. Looks like it's just a matter of getting a quiet fan to attach to the heatsink. Probably right now the Alpha PAL 8045 or thermalright AX-7. Not looking to spend $70 on a heatsink, yet. BUt thanks again for all your replys.

wait...crimson...r u planning to overclock?...if not...just get any regular quiet heatsink that'll handle to ur speed...the most common one is the volcano 5/6...they're quiet and r rated to handle certain speeds...
if ur planning to overclock...and if its mild...then go with a big heatsink and really quiet fan...if hardcore overclock...then u'd need some louder fans |

omg, the mxc370 sucks ass. the clip shorts out on the mobo so i taped the clip around, the clip is resting on one socket clamp damnit @#$!$!$ that heatsink will get a 4/10 with clipping device

No one is gonna listen to me, and I'll probably catch shit for this, but go for an OCZ Goliath, but be sure to get the Blue Meanie slim line, quiet fan. :disgust:

the clip does not suck burn...i think u just got a messed up one like speedy did before...nothing is perfect...the clipping mechanism is seriously dumbass proof...unless ur dumb...
HRE...the goliath is nice...big and copper...but not the best best... the best way is seriously to go with a hsf that uses 80mm fans...alpha is my choice...but it might change after i review the ax7... |
