Question Installing a PCI Heatsink Exhaust Fan

Hi there,

I just bought a PCI exhaust fan for my graphics card and it came with 2 four pins connectors, one male and one female. I am not sure if both of them are used and if so do I connect them to the motherboard and/or the PSU or both. It came with no instructions and I don't want to try to connect them in case I damage my pc.

Any help in this matter would be very much appreciated.

You should only use the...er... the one that isn't the same as the four pin connectors coming from the PSU. The other four pin is a courtesy from the PSU fan maker so you don't lose a four pin connector.

So why do they have 2x4 pins (male and female) where I have seen others with just 1x4 pins?

The extra plug in is just so you can plug something else in. All fans require one female plug, but some also have a male, so when the female is plugged in, you can plug something else into the male on the fan. That way you lose one 4-pin power source for your fan, but also gain one, leaving at a (1-1=0) difference.
