Finch's new water setup, efficient but not convenient; need help
hi everyone,
first off. in the first part i show pictures and results just so you guys get the idea and also to brag a little bit in the second part i will explain the little problem i have. thx for your time. ![]() By finch4ever, shot with Canon PowerShot SD1000 at 2007-11-29 this is an overview of my new water setup. there is that seperate box wich contains the water setup itself and the pc case. you can also see the 2 vents with tubing in the window. ![]() By finch4ever, shot with Canon PowerShot SD1000 at 2007-11-29 a close up view ![]() By finch4ever, shot with Canon PowerShot SD1000 at 2007-11-29 this is a close up view of the vents ![]() By finch4ever, shot with Canon PowerShot SD1000 at 2007-11-29 and here the vents in the window leads to those vents on my water setup box. there is also 2x120mm fans inside each of those vents to pull the cold air from outside onto the rads that i will show later.

![]() By finch4ever, shot with Canon PowerShot SD1000 at 2007-11-29 that is the inside of the box. pls dont mind the bunch of wires this was for a vmod project. you can also see that the black rad (wich is in fact a transmission car rad) is not in service right now as it will be for watercooling my gfx. probably when i will buy a new 8800gt. ![]() By finch4ever, shot with Canon PowerShot SD1000 at 2007-11-29 an inside the case pic ![]() By finch4ever, shot with Canon PowerShot SD1000 at 2007-11-29 in the dark (with no flash of corse )![]() By finch4ever at 2007-11-29 the results. see 22c core temps on idle (now that is cold ). this cpu is overclocked to 3.5ghz with almost 1.6vcore |

now for my problem; here in canada it is almost winter. for now temps outside are around -5c and a little bit colder with wind. for this water setup the cold wind is benific because on the other side of those vents the window is litteraly open and with wind the air is forced in the tubing. but that cold air is also exiting the watercase and going into the room. and it gets very cold here in the room depending the temp outside. it will be even worse when i will be using the other rad and that i will make those fan behind it spin. it will be even more worse when it will be -20c outside plus the wind...
![]() By finch4ever, shot with Canon PowerShot SD1000 at 2007-11-29 10c beside the rads after the air has gone through the rads. gives you an idea of the cold air outside. also this box is right next to the room heating device (meh sorry but dunno how we say in english) but the darn thing isnt controled by me but by a centeral unit somewhere in the building lol. so it will be freezing or confy in this room depending the mood of the person that is controling the heaters now you might say why didnt you sticked the too box againts each other so the cold air is going directly in the case and thus the air will exit warmer then now while they are seperate. well i tryed and it didnt work. ![]() By finch4ever, shot with Canon PowerShot SD1000 at 2007-11-29 you can see the tube with the white cord inside is wat i am using because the transparent tube just beside it wont cut it because when i stick the 2 cases thogheter the tubing kinks like hell. well it kinks even if they are seperate causing no good water flow. but now with the corded tubing it is less flexible thus making it impossible to approche the 2 cases. when i do so it acts like 2 magnets that you try to stick togheter but on the same pole side. they propulse each other. if i cut lenght of the tubing i will have not alot left to when i will want to seperate the 2 cases to work in the pc or atleast be able to detach the waterblock. i could destroye the extern beauty of my work by puting a kind of temporary shroud in carboard so the air is redirected in the case. but i want to avoid building a new box as im lazy and i live in a appartment and the noise from tools is a concern also its not summer anymore so i cannot work outside. any ideas? pls be quick before it reaches -20c outside lolthx very much finch Last edited by Finch : November 29th, 2007 at 10:10 PM. |

ok i have built a isolation foam box arround the gap i have between the case and the water cooling box. now i have to wait to see if that will make a difference. I cannot expect to much of it cuz i know the cold is coming from elsewhere too. the window is opened on the other side wich doesnt help alot either. plus they are old windows. Ice is begining to form on my air duct tubes because of condensation. its minus 12c outside without the wind factor. i got this morning 17c on die cpu temp on idle.

Why not try to route it though a small beer fridge HERE
Its what I used to run Drilled holes in the bottom to route the tubing......also had a tuperware container( went to the buck store and bought 8 of them little freezer packs and filled the tupperware contaner with that and 3' of copper tubing wound inside) in the freezer section which was then routed though 2 half gallon reserviors. Had it under my desk till the wife wanted to change everything around...........New furniture and stuff ........so after I got a NEW desk it kinda looked crappy, having a small fridge sitting out in the open. Not to mention there was stil enough room in the fridge to put 12 beers.........nice for when in gaming mode This way your room is warmer..... not to mention went SUMMER come your back to hot ![]()

i agree but i bet your setup is less efficient then mine (at least in winter) a fridge doesnt go colder then a few celcius over 0. but mine right now is at minus 12c that is a big difference. also for a comparasion. at idle it gets to 17c and at full load it gets to 67c on die temps. i tested for fun on air with a zalman 9700 at those clocks and i get almost 80c on idle. i like this project but im at the point that im thinking of giving up. |
