CPU FAN error wrning

On boot-up I get beebs with an " CPU Fan error" & have to click on "F1" to continou booting.

"Real Temp" shows 30c instead of 23-25 degsC it used to show.

I reinserted the Fan cable & fan spins freely.

Any Ideas about this?

Thanx ..........nick

Does Asus have a fan utility program for download? I recommend getting one (even if not Asus) and using it to monitor the speed of the CPU fan. It's possible it's either just getting old, or it's getting clogged up with dust. If you have a variable speed fan, run a stress test program with the fan monitor utility open and monitor the fan speed and the temps as the CPU is put under load. According to OCZ's site the fan should be at 1200-2800RPM

This motherboard should have been supplied with Asus PC Probe 2. This should monitor all MB temps, all fan speeds and all voltages. If you dont have it, download it from the Asus website but it should be on your supplied CD.

Edit: In retrospect, it might be a good idea to remove your heatsink and re-apply some good thermal grease. A temperature jump such as this is a little suspicious. Has the heatsink been disturbed at all?

I've also seen motherboards with failing fan drive circuits. If there is another monitored fan port nearby, you could try switching your CPU fan to that port and see if it works better (and turn on the monitor for that port, turning off the CPU fan port if you can).

Use PC ProbeII & Real Temp.

Upgraded mobo upwards 16 Sept 08.

The fan error comes up 10 secs during post in bootup.

Pluged the fan cable to another socket on mobo too.

Fan speed shown as Zero although spins fat & follows Q Fan settings.

Fan speed threshold 600.

Real Temp Tmax was 95 & I set it 100
