Windows XP nothing happening
When I double click on any program, it does not start. Nothing happens. Same in safe mode. What can I do about it.

OK, it is broken exe assotiation.

Virus is quite posible, but owner (it's not me) can not start AV program (obviously).

l know this may sound weird but try and find a bootable floppy of mcafee 3.1-4.1. Then use that to boot up the pc and get rid of the virus. l know that program is old by 9-12 years now but it has saved my butt in the past when l had this similar problem on my celeron.

Also see if you can find a copy of Avast BArt as this does do the exact same thing but then again it is a pay for use program and l dont know if it could work but you might as well try it.

3rdly linux live disc anyone? That could also get rid of the virus as you can install a av program that way and then run it scanning the windows side of things as well
