I attempted to boot off a thumbdrive, but that didn't work, so then I tried to copy the contents of the ISO for the win7 rc to an external hard drive, however I get an error that says it's not a bootable disk.
Since both dvd's refused to load, I'm looking at my DVD-RW as a source of problems. It's a memorex drive, I've had troubles with it in the past, but I'm not sure why the external hard drive won't boot. It's FAT32, has the boot files needed on it, it's marked as active...
So again, I'm really stuck on what to do. I should probably replace the DVD drive (did you know they're still charging an assload ($30+) for a DVD-RW? It's absurd.) but that's secondary to getting windows back on this machine... | you have to take ownership of the files on the win7 OS IIRC and while I could walk you through if you were in a windows based environment I am quite clueless in regards to Knoppix
Keep pluggin away man. I can tell you this though since i started playing with vista/win7 I have had many unexplainable issue with the DVD's and burners giving me all kinds of random crap when doing installs/repairs.
good luck
