What I find the most funny though is that you spend so much time dealing with drivers, when in reality with Windows 7, installing drivers is much less of a hassle as most of them are installed for you (and generally they are pretty up to date).

Also you should hardly ever be installing Drivers off of a CD. Those CD's are out to date and really quite pointless. Download the latest drivers online.

As good as your intentions may be this whole guide was put together quite sloppily and it just really isn't all that useful.

If the hardware is brand new, the drivers that are on CD are up to date, and sometimes the drivers are hard to find i.e. when the company died, then the CD is an ok alternative, better older drivers than m$ drivers, and i didn't specify win 7 i meant ANY win.

I think by far the only drivers that should be installed off a CD are network drivers. Just to be able to get to the internet to download the rest of the drivers you need. Unless of course, Windows has provided you with one already.

Lol Nope. When hardware is first released drivers are CONSTANTLY updated, so you need to keep an eye on the websites and make sure you have the most up to date drivers.

They box the cards/boards whatever up before they are even released. Then generally there are newer drivers released right around the launch date which are then only available on the site.

Hihi ... newest drivers are not the best sollution allways.
For example ... my 6600gt nvidia dos not work (actualy turns off display) with new drivers.

He's been in the business much longer than your age, and he has built many CPUs throughout his career...

I'm surprised more hasn't been made of his statement that only licensed techs should be able to install Windows, users (i.e. us) shouldn't even be allowed to purchase it.

Maybe, it's just that I've got this piece of paper that says I actually know how to design a CPU, and it bugs me when people don't know what that means...

And him being active in the PC industry since 1978 does not really qualify him as a a Windows technician, since windows 3.0 was released in 1990, and that's the oldest version that has ANY bearing on current versions...

Meh, he'll be back... just wasn't enough there for me justify a permanent ban in my on mind. Though recommending Windows Messenger should be justification enough.
