Hi there.

Slow boot i gather?

Well as in most windows installations i have to stress that installing win is not just popping in the win install cd/dvd and let it ride and you're finished.

You HAVE to install ALL the REQUIRED DRIVERS, you get them from your laptop manufacturer, if they only have vista drivers you have to go to chat with tech and tell them you NEED xp drivers they should be able to find some, since the hardware is often not all that new and other older similar cpu's xp drivers will work.
