WinXP - Cmos Settings Wrong

Since I reinstall win XP home a few months ago, on each first bootup it stops on black screen saying:-
1. Cmos Settings Wrong
2. Sett Date & Time
3. F1 for setup
4. F2 st default values & continue
I did all the above several times, but the same thing happens on next bootup from cold, it starts normally on a REstart.
Can it be corrected somehow? ...........thanx .....nick

it's possible your battery is dying. some boards can detect that and tell you, others can't. On your motherboard there's a small disk battery that supports your BIOS settings when the power is disconnected. If that goes, then when you lose power, it'll lose its settings. I think it might be that it runs off the battery power when the system is shut down, even if plugged in (but the plug is constantly recharging the battery) so if your battery can't hold a charge, even while plugged in, it'll lose the settings.

You can get a new battery from your local radioshack, or hobby shop, or wherever they sell disk batteries.

Hi there.

Sometimes, the system clock is set incorectly and this can cause some cryptic errors, even if the other cmos settings are otherwise ok.
