1st time installing os on SATA

Ok this is the first time I have tried loading XP on a SATA drive and ran into some bumps. When I try to select the option to install, it gives me the error that there are no drives found and to check connections and power. Do I need to install basic drivers?

Yep they should be on the cd which came with your MoBo. You need to extract them onto floppy and install them at the beginning of the install screen where it says to press f6 to install addition something or other.

In other word a XP installer needs a driver before it can recognise a Sata, which is treated as a SCSI devive.

The driver is supplied with the motherboard. It can be in a ready-made floppy or inside the driver CD which must be transferred into a floppy described by chillywilly, it is extremely unlikely a PC user has two CD drives.

Some members have reported that Only Intel based motherboards can survive without the driver.

Yep i agree that it's generally intel chipsets that can install without any additional drivers having to be installed.
