Zotac GTX 460 1gb problem

I just replaced my old 9800gt with Zotac GTX 460 1gb but when i try to boot up i get the fan spinning (cpu and card) for a milisecond then nothing.
If i just put one power plug in i get the beeps and it seems to boot up just with no monitor visuals.
If i put my old card back in it works perfectly. Could this be a power problem (not enough) or is it just that i have a dud card?
can anyone help?

Win 7 64 bit
Ive got an intel i5 750
4 gigs of ram
and a 600 watt power supply
