Graphics Problem

I've got this graphics problem recently when trying to play games......... As soon the game kicks in to play mode the screen goes blank and them multiple colored dots cover the whole screen and a humming noise comes out of the speakers and the system has to be rebooted to get rid of it.

The problem only seems to happen when playing games.

If someone out there has an inkling of what's happening, please suggest a course of action. The card in the system is a GeForce GTX 280.

Suggesting the obvious here. Have you tried updating the graphics drivers? from the nvidia website.

a little more information would help, such as what OS(windows xp/vista/7) you are using, What games you are trying to play, and the current version of your driver.

Drivers had been updated previously......... still no love.

I bought another card GTX 480 and tossed the GTX 240 it was no longer under warranty.

This problem is usually a motherboard incompatibility. I had similar issues using an AGP x1650 pro on VIA chipsets. Beg steal and borrow a different graphics card and try that. I also suggest you try a different power supply too. Experiment with different cards and let me know of the results.
