hey guys. i'm having a similar issue with a card I borrowed off a friend. Its a GeForce 8800GTS and for the most part, I'm led to believe it's a hardware failure, but I'm hoping it's not. Basically, it has weird artifacts like these lines (colour of the lines depend on the background, e.g. lines are red on a black background) that run vertically on my monitor and it comes up with Code 43 in device manager saying that the card reported problems. He had the same exact issue before he lent me the card.

Has anyone got a fix/workaround for this? I've googled it and it looks like quite a common issue.

I tried reinstalling the drivers and installing older drivers but no dice. I'm going to install the 64-bit version of the Win7 RC tonight in preparation for my 4GB RAM upgrade later in the week on the off chance that the 3D drivers function.

Hey M8,

Unfortunetaly I was not able to get any help on this. I was running windows Vista but switched to XP . the bad news is it did not help and now I have a comp. that I cant use. I sent my Card back the MFG. As it is still under warranty, luckily. I had posted here over a week ago and you are the first to post since then

My advice would be see if your card is under warranty. If it is, then replace the old card and ask around about bad vista patches. im guessing Microsoft messed something up somewhere and dont want to spend the time fixing it.. with the up and coming launch of windows 7. Yay yet another grand OS from Microsoft..

Im sure this isnt helping much lol but at least I was able to reply back to you unlike the oppposite that occured with me

Good Luck M8.

Meh. I think this card (along with the number of cards I've seen with the exact same issue) are dead and gone. I'm pretty sure this one's out of warranty. It's alright, I guess, considering he really only lent me the card to ensure my motherboard booted correctly. Hopefully next week I'll have either a Radeon HD4830 or a Radeon HD4770.

EDIT: A post on another thread says there's massive issues with the 18x.xx series drivers, starting from around 181.20 which give all kinds of Code 43 errors. When I downgraded my drivers I didn't use any form of driver cleaner, so that might be my issue. I'll reinstall with an older set of drivers, something from the late 17x.xx series drivers and I'll get back to post results.

Cool Video Error Code 43

This is exactly what I'd like to do to the video card when its not working: . I've been plagued with this error code 43 for months and I'm getting ready to send the card back to eVGA for a replacement. It's still under warrenty, thank God! Its a total waste to have 1 gig. of memory on your card and spend $600.00 to get just basic vga out of it. The screen flickers and I've tried for months installing different Windows OS's but no luck clearing it up. I've even tried those quick fixes, downloaded various versions of drivers, but I still get the same thing, that the video card will not except the drivers. Someone said here that the card could be dead. This card (eVGA GForce 9800 GX2) has never been overclocked (Its and awesome card no need.) so I know its not something I did. I just hate having to take it from the computer and send it back. The video card runs hot so it could have snapped a component inside that the video companies didn't allow for. Thanks guys for helping me understand what the problem was.
