I would agree with swk, the 9800GX2 is powerful as hell and in many cases will even best the GTX280 which just launched at $650. But given the performance of the 4850 and its $199 price tag its a great card to consider, especially in crossfire (if your board supports it) or even just wait for the upcoming 4870, which will be even more competitive.
The 9800GX2 is a great card, but its coming to the end of its life, especially now that the 9800GTX+ offers a 55nm G92, it would be wiser to even go SLI 9800GTX+. When the GTX260 and GTX280 drop to 55nm in the coming months they will become even more competitive as well.
Buying a 9800GX2 right now is almost like buying a 7950GX2 right before the 8800s launched. There is a lot better offerings coming down the pipes, and spending more than you have too right will lead to regrets later..
But to answer your question the 2 best brands that most people prefer to stick with are EVGA and XFX. Both offer great customer service, EVGA with its step up program (where they will refund your invoice price towards a newer, faster video card) or XFX with its double life time warranty (you register the card, and even if you sell it the buyer can register for a full lifetime warranty as well, really helping you make a good return).
