8800 GTS Card Comparison
Hi,
I own this; EVGA 640-P2-N829-AR GeForce 8800GTS SSC 640MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card And my friend just got this; BFG Tech BFGE88512GTSE GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card And he is currently running 200+ FPS on my card, why do you think this is? The only other difference is he has 4gs 6400 Ram and I have 3gs 3200 Ram, and I'm running AMD Dual core and he has Intel Quad core. Could these be the reasons? |

I'm surprised it would make that much of a difference.
He said his settings are on high, and mine are middle to low... |

Most likely your chip is holding you back some. But the 8800gts 512mb is a much faster card than the 8800gts 640mb. Like starwarskid said its a newer revision and is just a newer and better chip. However your card should be able to run most games perfectly fine.
Well if he is running pc6400 ram and you are running pc3200 ram than you seem to have an older setup. If its an AMD chip then you are on a socket 939 AMD x2? What CPU's specifically do you guys have? What speeds are they running at? What games and at what resolutions are you playing?

Yes I'm still using socket 939, Opteron 175, 2x1gb Corsair Matched XMS, and 2x512 Corsair Matched XMS.
He has, INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q9450 2.66GHz quad core processor, and CRUCIAL 4GB (2X2GB) DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHZ CR. The game is Guild Wars that we are comparing, I get around 60-65ish avg, and he gets around 200ish avg, but I have seen his hit 300fps. I bought my card like ~8 months ago, he just bought his, and got the cpu. Would I be better off getting a newer card like say; EVGA 512-P3-N845-AR GeForce 8800GTS (G92) KO 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP or EVGA 512-P3-N808-AR GeForce 8800GT AKIMBO SuperClocked 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Thanks! |

Ok well the last time it took me forever to decide on the Asus A8N-32sli, and the Opty 175.
Not sure which Mobo/Cpu I should upgrade to... Stick with AMD or go Intel? Asus is the only Mobos that I have any experience with... Psu is an OCZ GameXStream IIRC 800watts may be 750 tho... |

Oh ya that PSU is more than enough. Nice solid PSU too.
Well whether AMD or intel really depends on how much you would want to spend. Intel is the performance king now, but AMD does make some great products for the more budget conscious. Oh and just remember.. you really don't need to upgrade at all.. After 60FPS your eye cannot tell the difference. So there really is no benefit running at 300fps vs 60. |
