Jobs to music companies: Let us sell DRM-Free music
Article
A year ago, the big music dealers asked Apple to sell music for more than the 99 cent flat-rate that made iTunes the monster that it is. Jobs told them no and they agreed to sign one year contracts.
Now, their contracts are up and Jobs is telling them to let iTunes sell music with no copy restrictions. iTunes would continue to sell their 99 cent music, but those who want to use DRM-free tunes on devices other than iPods, for instance, could purchase restriction-free, higher quality versions for a little more--$1.29.
Apple has apparently struck a deal with one group and the others will likely fall into place shortly.
One can hope, anyway.
