well, it's getting them SOME Google at least. although the restrictions include free Tibet, Tiananmen Square massacre and other human rites stuff.

although TBH it isn't hard to get past their firewall, or use normal google. anyone who really know's what they're searching for can get it.

Business is Business. We can't stop China doing what it does, it's up to people in China, if they feel hard done by, they will eventually resist, most probably with full US and European support at that.

Haha... No, not really. Microsoft and Yahoo have been filtering their results for just about forever to comply with Chinese law, so the fact that Google is doing this is not really new to anybody. Not to mention that neither me or my computer can read Chinese characters. lol

and google is one of the goodies, not a faceless cooperating like M$ and Yahoo... well, to a certain extent anyway.

Why would this be differentiating from Google's core beliefs? They only have one motto: do no evil. I see no evil in this.

they pledge to give free access to all information. they even said a couple of months ago that a filtered compromise w/ china wasn't an option. they said that anything on the internet should be in their index.
