All i can say is that would be awesome! It would be interesting to see where this would take AMD though - hopefully take another bite out of Intel's marketshare?

sure is interesting , although i am unsure if i would be happier with it or not.
I have a AMD CPU and a ATI graphics card, so for compatiblity and performance, it would be all good for me, but what if ATI cards goes really bad, or amd cpus. Will compatiblity go into jeppordy?
I see intel and nvidia as that though. Intel cpus have always had their little problems, and nvidias stuff was great in some places, and crap in others.
Can anyone see this in the same way as me, where nvidia ae trying to take the market by working with the gaming companies, like intel work with microsoft to cut AMD and ATI out. Maybe this is why this has cropped up.

i've akways been an ati fan, when i built a computer for my friend i hooked him up with an x1600 and i got him an A64 processor. I have nothing against either companies(although i'm using intel and nvidia right now) but i would be very unhappy if they became one. my future computer purchase will most likely be AMD/Nvidia.
The only advantage i could see a merger like this have, is CPU strength GPU's, oh wait, thats already happening.

wow, interesting...
my first reaction was negative simply because i think the competitive nature between ATI-nVidia-AMD-Intel we have right now is good for consumers, and anything to upset it worries me.
but then, the article points out that it makes a lot of sense for AMD. i feel like the best is yet to come from AMD, and this kind of an acquisition has to make you wonder what kind of GPUs could come out of an AMD-backed ATI.
it'd be good for ATI, because they've really had their hands full competing with nVidia for the past 2 yrs or so. they've done it, but it hasn't been easy, and it always seems like nVidia could squash ATI if it really wanted to.
i wonder what the future of nVidia-AMD relations would look like with an acquisition like this. it would effectively pit AMD and nVidia against each other in the GPU market. i wonder if the result would be tighter relations between nVidia and Intel. that could make things a little awkward for ppl such as myself, you have had the best performance with AMD/nVidia builds.
i guess when it comes down to it, it would ultimately mean more competitive GPUs from ATI, which will benefit everyone who loves to play videogames.

Ya know im kinda saddened by it, im an AMD/NVidia fan, but since im in canada i cant help but root for ATI.
Just the other day i was thinkin Intel and Ati go 2gether just as how NVidia and AMD go 2gether. 1 generates a lotta heat, the other dish out performance (very disputable regardin gpus)
But then nvidia does things like intel does, such as multiprocessing extreme, such as dual core with HT and NV wit Quad SLi. Where Ati offers features such as AA with HDR, and the performance architechture of AMD to compete with intel at lower speeds.
I believe this has come about with the recent events surrounding all 4 companies.
Nvidia releases SLI enabled cards, ATi rushes to release crossfire, Nvidia counters with Quad SLi before crossfire really has a chance to make a stand now comes a struggle to have quad crossfire? or the new physics stuff both companies will do?
Intels CPUs are used in Macs, securing the Mac world and gettin more cpus out..AMD is left behind dealing with people who really DO know the diff between the CPU's and can make the choice of either.
Results? AMDs down, ATi's down, NVidias goin full steam ahead n Intel...well every business generally has intels machines sittin in em...for as little as 1 grand or less per intel machine businesses can afford a ton of em from ...ugh...Dell.

I'm don't think I agree, but at any rate, on the last point... It's rumored that Dell will start selling AMD in the desktop, and there's some strong evidence to that effect here.
Ars has also summed up some more stuff on why AMD+ATi could be a good thing, and least for those two. There's been a lot of little op-eds, but this is a little bigger article that has some good points. It can be found here.
