Page 4 - AMD to actually buy ATI!!!

Ok I can see it in media center pc's, but there is no way that they will make every cpu/gpu like this, it won't work there is not enough room for custimization.

Heh, I doubt that. Things keep getting smaller, GPUs are becoming more like CPUs... what if a GPU/CPU hybrid was created?

That's wild speculation, but seriosuly, read the AnandTech article I posted above. One of the points is that CPUs have taken a far different strategy, going to dual-cores. We can go to quad next, and then what? At some point progressing in this manner presents no benefit to most computers. What do we add to CPUs then?

Quad-core CPU. Two cores are a GPU, with an on-die memory controller to GDDR3, which is in removable modules. Two cores with a CPU, with an on-die memory controller to DDR3.

So what you would have like 1 cpu/gpu socket and then have both ddr3 and gddr3 slots? It would be nice, you could just upgrade video ram when you wanted to.

If they do it, it could be their stupidest mistake ever or completely reinventing the way computers work.

well this is how I think it'll be. 2 sockets on a bord 1 for cpu 1 for gpu. that way if one fails it doesn't take out the other. The gpu accesses its own ram sticks which come with the gpu and the cpu accesses it own like it always has. Thus eliminates the need for pcie and agp slots

Ya it sure seems like 2 sockets would be the better way to go, allows for easier swapping, but that is not what they are planning on doing, at least no yet.

source? and I was talking about what ati and amd are planning, but to me the two sockets seems more logical.

have none but Intel is planning some new integrated stuff which may lead to the develpoment of what we are talking about
